About the Learning Units

These short learning units have been developed by the LMI for All project to support careers advisers and teachers using or interested in accessing and using Labour Market Information (LMI) as part of the advice, guidance and counselling process.

Although LMI for All, among other sources, provides reliable and up to date information about the labour market, for instance employment in different occupations, wage levels and skill requirements, interpreting and making sense of this information is not always simple.

This includes understanding employment opportunities in different regions, making sense of pay at different ages, and the gender pay gap, replacement demand in occupations and the changing skills and knowledge for present and future jobs. Sometimes this is called Labour Market Intelligence.

This also includes knowing where else to look for LMI and the ability to judge the reliability and usefulness of different sources of data.

These learning units are designed to help you in understanding LMI and the different data sets LMI for All provides access to. Each units is designed to take about 30 minutes of your time, although we provide links to more sources of information if you should wish to pursue them. Each module provides a basic introduction to the topic, multimedia and questions for you to consider. Although we have provided an outline order to the modules you are free to dip in and out in any order you wish.

For eaxh unit we include a quick quiz for you to test your own knowledge. Each uniy also have a short evaluation form to provide us feedback on the content and design of the units.

We hope to extend the range of topics covered over time. We would be delighted if you would like to suggest topics you would like us to cover. Just fill in the form below and we will do our best to respond.

Finally, these modules are licenses under a UK Open Government License. This means you are free to copy, publish, distribute and transmit the Information and adapt the Information as long as you acknowledge the source. The Learning Units have been written by Graham Attwell, Jenny Bimrose and Sally-Anne Barnes.
